Cordero a Red, and not terribly smart

“I would have liked to stay in Milwaukee, but it’s not up to me.” Those were the words of ex-Brewers closer Fancisco Cordero, according to this Wisconsin State Journal article.  You see, I always thought it was completely up to the player, when signing a free agent contract.

Nevertheless, the Brewers find themselves without a closer and without a lot of options.  They had already lost setup/middle relief guy Scott Linebrink to the the White Sox… now the back end of their bullpen has nobody left but Derrick Turnbow, who is hardly an ideal candidate for the closer job on a team that should compete for first in the division.  It will be interesting to see if the Brewers take a shot at any number of unreliable free agents or give the hometown hated Turnbow another go.
