NFL Week 8

While previewing this week in the NFL, the local paper made note of the achilles injury to the Giants LaVar Arrington. Reason being, the Packers made a big push to sign him in the offseason. The column said the Packers must be feeling glad they didn’t sign him, given his severe injury. How does that make sense? Is this writer suggesting that it must be some divine intervention that caused Arrington’s injury and that it would’ve chased him down wherever he was? Had he given up football and gotten a job managing a grocery store, would an old lady accidentally slam him in the leg with a shopping cart? Sounds like a 4th chapter in the Final Destination series.

In other news… the Drew Bledsoe watch is officially over. He put in a good run, considering how bad of a job he was doing. Now we’re on to the Bill Parcells watch. I wonder how long Jerry Jones is going to put up with a failing team. You know things are bad when people start talking about the upgrade in mobility by going to Tony Romo…

Here’s what I have to say about the matcups in week 8: (picks are in bold)

10/29 1:00 ET At Tennessee -3 Houston
Yuck, what a matchup. Both defenses are terrible and neither offense has much to get excited about. I’ll give Tennessee the edge though. Vince Young is going to be grasping the offense a little better (“Okay Vince, we want to throw to the guys wearing the same color shirts as you, got it?”) and the Titans have been running the ball like crazy lately.

10/29 1:00 ET At Philadelphia -7.5 Jacksonville
I really want to see Philly lose three straight… but with Leftwich out, I can’t see it happening. There’s no way that Jacksonville will be able to match points with Philly. The only positive to this game is that the Jaguars racist fans get to see a white QB again.

10/29 1:00 ET At Cincinnati -3.5 Atlanta
Cinci has been all over the place this year. Same goes for Vick’s career though… I can’t see him having two good games in a row. I feel a low scoring one here.

10/29 1:00 ET At NY Giants -9 Tampa Bay
The Giants just aren’t good enough to stay in 1st place for long. Tampa has slowly been getting it together.

10/29 1:00 ET At Chicago -16 San Francisco
49ers might not score a point. How long has it been since the Bears were on the good side of a 16 point spread?

10/29 1:00 ET At Green Bay -3.5 Arizona
The Packers will probably win this game and blow the draft. I wonder who replaces Denny Green?

10/29 1:00 ET At Kansas City -4 Seattle
There’s no way Seneca Wallace goes into Arrowhead and wins, especially with no Alexander.

10/29 1:00 ET At New Orleans -1.5 Baltimore
Still not picking against the Saints at home. Plus the Ravens have no offense. They are probably worse off if McNair plays

10/29 4:05 ET At San Diego -9.5 St. Louis
Rams can attack too many ways

10/29 4:15 ET Pittsburgh -9 At Oakland
The Steelers are bad, but not THIS bad

10/29 4:15 ET At Cleveland -2 NY Jets
10 people will watch this game.

10/29 4:15 ET At Denver -3 Indianapolis
Way too much defense for Manning to throw his way out of. It will be fun watching him get beat up.

10/29 8:15 ET At Carolina -5 Dallas
NBC is billing this game as the day Keyshawn gets revenge on the man who ran him out of town (TO). Thrilling.

10/30 8:30 ET New England -2 At Minnesota
Pats are just getting started.

Last Week Outright Wins 6-7
Season Total Outright Wins 25-14

I gave up keeping track of my record against the spread… it makes no sense given I don’t gamble.
