Top QB’s in NFL

You must rank five to submit your ballot

I’m having a hard time with that part… The top 3 QB’s in the NFL are no sweat. In no particular order I think it’s safe to say Brady, Elder Manning and Drew Brees are tops. Carson Palmer is probably after them. Who is next? I guess at that point it comes down to which team you like better or which stat you care about. If you look at rating, Damon Huard, Marc Bulger, Philip Rivers and Mark Brunell are in the top 10 (with JP Losman, Pennington, Delhomme, McNair, Carr, Garrad all follwing closely). Considering TD passes, Grossman is one of the top dogs. Kitna had a ton of yards, but threw more INTs than TDs and his team had the 2nd worst record in the NFL. Philip Rivers was on the team with the best record, but he’s more a byproduct of Tomlinson than he is a good QB (for now, at least). Let’s face it, there is a severe drop off in talent after the top couple guys. The only promising news is that Brady/Manning/Brees are not that old. The Brady/Manning rivalry should give us another five years of good passing performances, assuming the Colts don’t get dismantled by the salary cap after this year. Hopefully guys like Cutler, Young, and Leinert can learn the ropes in a hurry and be ready to take over as the next group of elites with a guy like Carson Palmer hitting his prime somewhere inbetween. If that doesn’t happen, we might be in for a lot of low scoring games and 20+ INT seasons in a few years.

All this talk about QB’s really makes you think that the Packers need to come up with a better plan than Aaron Rodgers. I’ve never been a fan of his and I don’t think I ever will (unless he strings together some amazing seasons to prove me wrong). Favre is certainly losing his abilities and will be gone (whether through retirement or trade) by the time the rest of the team develops. Just think, Favre could retire after this year and we could go into the pre-season only to find out that Rodgers isn’t the answer. Then what? Do we sign a guy like Trent Green to try and stop the bleeding for a few years? I’ve already mentioned the potential disaster looming with a young team developing that has no real answer at the most important position. We could have a fairly talented team in 3 years and absolutely nobody to play quarterback. Watch the last several years of Bronco football to see what that might be like.
