So the Cubs signed Alfonso Soriano to a 15 year $392 million contract. Well, close. If Soriano’s age is accurate, he will be a Cub until he is 39. He will also be instantly thrust into the roll of “best leadoff guy in baseball.” How do you figure that? This is a guy that has a career .325 on base percentage. This is a guy that had 67 walks last year. This is a guy that hits .280 at best. This is a guy that was 28th in the majors in hitting last year. How does this add up to being a great leadoff guy? Sure he’s a 40-40 player, but other than that, is he really that good? Good luck with the pitching Cubbies…
