Packers lost again. No big deal, I’ve always said this year is not about winning. There was a bigger problem with Sundays game that may have huge long-term implications. Aaron Rodgers played and got hurt. During garbage time (which started mid 2nd quarter), Favre hurt his elbow and Rodgers was thrown into the fire. Not only did he play poorly in an ugly situation, but he broke his foot. He’s done for the year. I guess that’s what you call job security if you’re #4. That brings an important issue to the table for the Packers. They will no doubt have a high draft pick this April. Likely a top 10, maybe top 5. So, do you take that and try to draft a QB? Do you make a trade to get a QB? Via draft, there’s potential to pick up Brady Quinn. WIth a trade? Maybe you get a guy like Chad Pennington or JP Losman and give them a shot in a new environment. I’m not crazy about getting a proven failure taking snaps, but the situation right now isn’t pretty. I wouldn’t hold my breath to go after a Carson Palmer or some other high dollar free agent in the next few years, because Ted Thompson has proven he isn’t about that. Whether or not he comes back next year, Favre is going to retire soon. When he does, he will leave behind a team that has had 1-3 years of playing together in the same system and should be relatively talented at that point. I’m not saying they’ll be a lock to win the North, but they should have a good team. However, the most important spot on the team will be the biggest question mark. Right now, Aaron Rodgers is the furutre. However, he’s shown no real spark in pre-season or training camp. He’s done nothing with the limited regular season snaps he’s gotten and now will be sidelined until the ’07 season (where he may be a starter). That is a scary possibility. The Packers run a great risk of wasting current rebuilding efforts by not having the quarterback spot solidified. Most people don’t realize how hard it is to replace a franchise QB. If you think about it; Miami, Dallas, Denver and San Francisco (to an extent) are still trying to replace their Hall of Fame QBs. The biggest difference is that teams usually wait for the QB to retire before rebuilding. Green Bay is trying to minimize the hangover, but is running the risk that their team may peak before they have a QB. History has proven it is very rare to win without a good signal caller.

Very nice Packers information. I think Favre will be an immediate hall-of-famer.
I hope to be in Green Bay for a game this fall. I am visiting from Peru.
